PRESERVE THEIR VOICE. SAVE IT FOREVER. OWN YOUR STORY.
Tell Your Story
No one can tell their story like they can themselves. Everyone’s voice is distinct. If that person has a stroke that limits speech or memory loss or suddenly dies without recording and saving their unique voice, then it’s lost forever.
But just imagine your great-great-great grand niece sharing this voice at school for show and tell! The family can play a clip at the reunion! Your church or temple or mosque or civic or professional or veterans group will have it. You can donate it to a history archive if you wish. It’s an heirloom, family history, a legacy.
Now we have the technology to record these unique voices and preserve them in a way no other generation has. But you can’t just whip out your phone and hit the red button. Well you can, but good luck finding it when you need it. Ever go looking for an old voice mail or an answering machine tape and find it’s lost?
Your Personal Time Capsule
So let me help you record and save these precious voices on digital audio or video. Then I can show you how to save them in a way where you’ll know exactly how to find them when you want to hear them. They’ll last longer than film, surely longer than magnetic tape like VHS, longer than CD’s or DVD’s, even longer than hard drives (because we’ll make multiple copies, redundancy being the greatest insurance).
It’s a personal time capsule. You own it. Generations yet unborn can meet you. Get to know you. Appreciate your voice. Your story.
It’ll be great. You’ll see. And so will they.
How Does This Work?
You book an appointment on this CALENDAR. I come to the home of the storyteller. I prompt them to talk with some open ended questions. I record the answers and share them with you and you only.
CAN YOU TALK TO THEM ON THE PHONE OR WEBCAM?
Of course I can. It just doesn’t work nearly as well. There’s science on this. So much is lost when we’re not present in the same place. It just doesn’t work nearly as well.
CAN’T I JUST DO THIS MYSELF?
Of course you can. Will you? When? How long have you been saying you would?
WHAT MAKES YOU SO SPECIAL STUART?
Experience. Expertise. Doing it wrong for years until I learned how to listen. I’ve done more than 7,500 professional interviews live on camera and on tape since 1983. I’ve won 10 Emmys, three Peabody awards (the Pulitzer of TV) and a fellowship in journalism to Harvard. And I ain’t that smart. I’ve just learned to listen.
WHAT DO I GET?
You own the raw digital recordings. I’ll put them in a file only you have access to. Make all the copies you want for whoever you want. It’s yours. It doesn’t belong to some big media group. You own this recording. If you lose it, get back in touch. I’ll get you a new copy.
WHAT DO YOU CHARGE?
$1,000 for two hours of audio or video. That’s $100 for my questions and $900 for my listening and recording their answers. There are additional charges for longer recordings, for multiple sessions, for editing if you want it and for travel of more than an hour. No, I’m not haggling with you over my fees. And my rates will more than double by the end of the year.
If you don’t have the money, I can teach you how to do this yourself. I’m working on an online tutorial. I’ve put years of thought into this model. Just don’t put this off. Record those precious voices now. If you store them carefully, you’ll always have them.
